Episode 123 - Joshua Parent (Counter Weight Brewing Co.)

This week’s featured artist is Joshua Parent. We recorded this episode live in 3D at Counter Weight Brewing Co. in Hamden, CT. Thanks to the CW crew for making the space for us to have a beer and chat at the brewery.

Learn how he balanced his corporate self and his personal work. Took time to dive into his process and style sheet he is bringing to CW drawn from his time spent working in consumer goods and packaging. A really honest and introspective look at his journey and story that will resonate with many of you. Josh has been an early supporter of the project whose work has transformed one of the hottest breweries in the Northeast to a new visual level. As a band grows it is essential to have someone with the excitement and love of their work like Josh does for them. It’s exciting to share that with you.

Episode 122 - Peter-John de Villiers (Amundsmen Brewing)

Episode 122 - Peter-John de Villiers (Amundsmen Brewing)

This week’s featured artist is Peter-John de Villiers. PJ is our first guest by way of Norway, which is as exciting and interesting as his story and adventures. We came to learn of his beautiful and intricate designs through the vivid and intense can designs he has done for Amundsen Brewing.

Take time to enjoy his story and travels which started in South Africa landed him locally to us in CT then NYC for his spaghetti years and now to Norway where he has found his home that is his truest self. Through the support and passion for design in his family enjoy a great example in hard work and dedication to self, family and one’s calling. An Analog artist in a digital world doing work that is important and meaningful to him.

I value the stories and experiences and the shared connections I have with my guests and usually end up feeling that I take more away from it than I give back in return. We connect with many wonderful people all around the world and usually share a snapshot of their happy place and success, but that moment is on the back of so many challenges and hard moments and choices for them. When you listen I hope that you are inspired to be true to yourself and follow your heart. I know that this is advice that I could benefit from taking and putting into action.

Episode 121 - Chris Edwards (Hoax Brewing Co.)

Episode 121 - Chris Edwards (Hoax Brewing Co.)

This week’s featured artist is Chris Edwards of Hoax Brewing. We first came to meet Chris at last year’s ‘THE Art of Craft Beer’ event at the Kehler Liddell Gallery where her and the amazing Brandy Thomas saved the day as our event bartenders helping to make it close to a perfect night. I have been following along his efforts and adventures since then and am excited to be able to share this interview with you.

Recorded live at the Beeracks in East Haven, CT this is a fun episode over beers where we learn not only about his work as the Creative Director and label guy for Hoax, but also his jack of all trades many hats wearing job as Sales Director and his grind which includes slinging drinks with our friends Three Sheets in New Haven. Learn how he slings the brews to new accounts and a little glimpse into the day in the life of an up and coming brewery with a small passionate team - see also Austin & Sean. Despite my lack of ink, I feel at home with this crew and the other brewers and breweries there. We have featured Mighty Few who work with Johnny and Armada Brewing, Nick Gamma of Hops & Branding (Happy Belated) who works with Hulls, Magge Gagliardi who works with Front Porch Brewing and we have nothing but love for Justin and Erector Brewing(TEASER - some cool shit will be going down with this crew).

Episode 120 - Ryan Adams (Goodfire Brewing Co.)

Episode 120 - Ryan Adams (Goodfire Brewing Co.)

This week's featured artist is Mainer extraordinaire Ryan Adams of Better Letter Hand Painted Signs. We came to learn of the can he did with Goodfire Brewing Co. and used that as a no brainer excuse to learn about his story and get him on the podcast. A great perspective on life, working hard and doing what you love.

A hard working passionate artist who shares his story and how being in the right place at the right time while being true to his love and calling has made for a booming career with a unique style that is vibrant and full of life. As a long time fan of graffiti artwork and murals having the opportunity to connect with Ryan was perfect. The ability to utilize typography, geometry and lively colors is part of his signature style that he uses to bring to life these local communities and businesses.

Our love for Maine is well documented and continues to grow as we count down the days to our return (for those scoring at home August 8th!!). It is because of the work of Ryan and so many others that the amount of time we spend in Vacationland each year continues to grow, because it is really unlike any place I have been in my life. Art, food, music and the obvious beer all wrapped around a common vision of community and support of each other. Listen to the amount of names and respect shown for so many others that takes place in this episode with ease.

Episode 119 - James Ockelford (North Brewing Co.)

Episode 119 - James Ockelford (North Brewing Co.)

This week's featured artist is James Ockelford the founder of the UK branding and design firm Refold. We came to learn of him through his work with North Brewing Co. and have been following along ever since. A fun story of how he got started through music and creating visuals for bands and doing something that he loved.

Not only does James support the vision and visuals for breweries and brands, but he is a fan of the craft and supporter of others in the space and industry which is refreshing and wonderful. In August of last year he finalized his creation an impressive book ‘The Crushable Canvas’, which he was so kind to send to me. It meant the world to me and is inspiring us to push forward with a book about this project too.

Another friend made in another country. One of the joys of this project and really more than I could have ever imagined when we were brainstorming this project in ’16. So many amazing artists and designers from all over and our job is to share them with you each week. Not a bad job at all.

Episode 118 - Pat Henzy (Abomination Brewing Co.)

Episode 118 - Pat Henzy (Abomination Brewing Co.)

This week's featured artist is Pat Henzy. We came to learn of him through the recommendations of fellow Philly artists and our listeners. A great episode that looks at how he got started in his career, how fatherhood impacted his art and shares a little behind the scenes on his process and perspective. A humble and kind guy who has been a supporter of the project and was a no-brainer guest to include in Season 11.
