How cool would it be to work for your favorite brewery in your hometown? Well that is what Brett did and it's a great story. He went to school for Sculpture and was creating in his home studio with his wife, but had gone to work doing something that wasn't his passion. He made a great life decision that he was going to work for Founders Brewing one day and he did, he made that dream a reality. This week's interview gives a unique look inside a great brewery - Founders Brewing. Learn about Dave's process, his background and his love of Rockabye Baby Radiohead.
One of my favorite parts of this project has been the connecting and learning about artists and their stories. We learned of David through his work with one of my favorite breweries Heist Brewery and the label work he had done for them. His label designs were fun and pseudo-cartoon in design, but when we learned about his other art it was a new dimension. The creative pieces he designs and builds are dark and weathered and bring to life old materials, a phoenix like recycling project. His excitement to be working with Heist and other breweries is apparent because like he said it is bringing together two of his favorite things - art and drinking. Our light hearted jabs for him to get his own website have been answered, but we now need him to post some content for us.
Speaking to Lindsey was a lot of fun and a natural conversation. Her down to earth and honest approach to life and design was apparent from the start. Her insight into the launch of a new brand with Troegs while still being active in her own style and brand was interesting and enjoyable. She works hard and is a passionate person about her work. Since we spoke she continues to be recognized for her work in print and as part of Philly Beer Week and to say it is well deserved is a huge understatement.
Lawyer turned artist, who deep down was always an artist and just gave in to what made him happy and brought pure enjoyment through his work is the story of Mike Van Hall. We had the opportunity to speak with him and learn about his craft, his story and how through minimalism he is able to bring the two breweries' can and label work to life through vivid and lively art design. His appreciation for the legacy and importance of art was also not lost on us. It was genuine and selfless, which made me want to learn more about it in the process.
