The first meeting of the Art Appreciative Color Blind Association will come to order. It was great to learn that not only were Mike and I fans of good beer and music, but we both were asked the crazy color blind questions on the regular. Hearing Mike describe his color choice or lack thereof gave me an insight into reasoning as why I find myself drawn to great black and white work whether in drawing or even photography and the work of Mike Lawrence is high on that list of favorites. It was an absolute pleasure to get to speak with him and see how he brings his designs to life. In the short time since we have spoken with Mike, he has been a part of some of the great efforts from Tired Hands - both in the beers that they put out and also the new mural that he did for the General Store, which will open soon. Excited that he will soon be updating his site to include prints and rumors that some of the label art may even be available soon at the General Store - keeping my fingers crossed.

After much back and forth it was great to finally connect with Heidi. She has been an extremely positive and encouraging energy for this project. She is not only an extremely talented artist, but is supportive and upbeat about other artists, breweries, beers and the 16oz. Canvas. One of the words that she embodies is collaboration - it is her fuel and she loves it and we do too since we get to benefit from the output she works to create for all. We look forward to connecting upon our return to Maine this summer and see what comes of it. Will have to make sure to bring a few bottles to the hang as her beer game is on par with her art - no joke.

Those who can't teach?! I think that is one of the worst phrases in our society for a variety of reasons. I state that as someone who is married to a 7th grade science teacher and has a family of teachers and mentors in my life. Read this interview and try not to see the power of a strong mentor and someone being selfless for the greater good. Matt is that guy. Not only does he have a great aesthetic and super clean and smart spacial and visual sense to him, but he thinks of others and it is genuine.

Being a teacher is just one of the hats that he wears and it is through his design and impressive portfolio that he gets to put those skill into motion. Matt is the cool teacher for the 21st century. He is in the trenches and shares that experience and insight honestly with his students all while making some incredible design and branding deliverables for his clients. We could use a few more Matts in the world.
